We cordially invite you to join us
at this conference, taking place on March 17 & 18, 2005 at the NYU
School of Law. Download the program! The main objective of Caught in the Net is to begin a national
dialogue among lawmakers, social services and criminal justice professionals,
and advocates on the impact of drug policies on women and their families.
The ACLU, Break the Chains and the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School
of Law advocate for drug policies that address the needs of women and
their families. Our criminal justice system unfairly and ineffectively
responds to women’s drug use, drug addiction, and involvement in
drug related activities with harsh prison sentences and civil sanctions
that harm lives and break up families.
The ACLU, Break the Chains and the Brennan Center for Justice believe
drug addiction is best addressed by an approach that emphasizes treatment
and social services over punishment and incarceration.
